The New York State Senate unanimously passed Assembly Bill 1382, sponsored by Assemblymember Paulin, to amend the Social Services Law. The bill passed 57-0 and takes effect immediately. Sen. Rivera, who sponsored the measure, explained his vote by referencing a September 2023 tragedy in his district where a one-year-old child died from fentanyl exposure at a daycare facility. Rivera stated the bill, developed with the child's parents, provides training for childcare staff and inspectors and establishes parental inspection rights for childcare facilities to prevent similar incidents.
