The New York State Senate passed Senate Print 416, an act to amend the Highway Law, by a vote of 58-1 on Calendar Number 435. The bill honors State Trooper MacLarnon, who was killed in January 1931 at the intersection of the Southern State Parkway and Wantagh Parkway in the Fifth Senate District. According to Sen. Rhoads, who represents the district, MacLarnon was struck by a vehicle while walking to his booth after parking his motorcycle at the intersection. Rhoads characterized the recognition as overdue, coming 92 years after the trooper's death. "I'm thrilled that ninety -- I've got to do a little math here -- but 92 years after the fact, we are finally giving this hero the recognition that he deserves," Rhoads said. Sen. Brisport cast the sole vote in opposition. The bill takes effect immediately.
