S5784
An act to direct the commissioner of the Office of General Services to erect a monument to be known as the New York State Holocaust Memorial — 2025-06-12 · Calendar #1398
The New York State Senate passed legislation directing the erection of a Holocaust memorial at the Empire State Plaza. Senate Print 5784, sponsored by Sen. Fahy, passed unanimously 59-0 on a roll call vote. The bill relocates a previously planned Capital Region Holocaust Memorial from Niskayuna to the state plaza, where it will serve as a dedicated state-level memorial to honor Holocaust victims and survivors while educating New Yorkers about the dangers of antisemitism, racism, and intolerance. Fahy noted that approximately one in five Americans aged 18-29 are estimated to be Holocaust deniers or lack knowledge of the Holocaust, and said the memorial will help address this growing indifference and ignorance. The legislation was developed over years by the Capital Region Jewish Holocaust Memorial, founded by Dr. Michael Lozman and led by president Dan Dembling.
